Phantom vs Square Off: choose your self-moving chessboard
Phantom and Square Off both move the pieces for you, so the effect is similar. The real choice is between Phantom’s wooden design and Stockfish and Maia engines, and Grand Kingdom’s lower price, 20 AI levels and automatic reset after each game.

What about Croco and Universe?
Both are collector’s versions from Square Off. Croco is finished by hand in crocodile leather. Universe adds a triangular inlay of Seymchan meteorite, and its pattern is unique to each board. Choose them for the material and the gift value. For everyday play, Grand Kingdom gives you the same self-moving effect for far less.
Common questions
Which board is better for a beginner?
Grand Kingdom is the simpler first step: it costs less, offers 20 AI levels and resets itself. Phantom suits someone who also wants the board as a design piece.
Can I choose a Phantom by its colour alone?
The two finishes also come with different pieces. Walnut has classic Staunton pieces, and Maple has simple, modern pieces. Wood varies naturally, so colour and grain can differ slightly from the photos.
